Margaret

25May08

Eighteen students and three chaperones from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School went on an alternative spring break to New Orleans in April. For one week, they worked with an Americorps team to help build a Habitat for Humanity house in the upper Ninth Ward for a needy family. Margaret was a woman that offered up her FEMA trailer to our group so that we had a place to take a break out of the 95 degree heat. She also gave us an incredibly candid interview about her life post-Hurricane Katrina. Press play to hear her words.

School may be winding down, but the commitment to work for change is still red hot! This week, April 6 to April 13, is Global Week of Action for Darfur. Students involved in STAND, an international anti-genocide coalition, are revved up to call on President Bush to work for peace in Sudan.

Upcoming Events

April 9th- San Francisco, CA: The Olympic Torch passes through its only stop in the United States, and thousand of activists will be ready to receive it! They are calling for Bush to lobby China when he attends the Olympic Games there this summer. China has been supplying weapons and money to the Sudanese government, which they are using aggresively on civilians in Darfur.

April 13th- Washington, D.C: A rally will be held in our nation’s capitol to again call on President Bush to help create a lasting legacy of peace in Sudan.

April 27th- Boston, MA: STAND will call upon Staples, the company supplying office materials and furniture for the Olympic games, to publicly state their opposition to China’s position on Darfur. There will be a rally in Boston Common with engaging speakers and tons of energy!
